XLP seeks to track the performance of the Consumer Staples Select Sector Index, which contains stocks of companies providing goods and services that consumers use on a daily basis, including foods and beverages, personal products, and tobacco, as well as retailers selling these types of goods. Companies in this sector tend to be more stable and less volatile than the market as a whole, but may have lower long-term growth potential. XLP is appropriate for investors seeking long-term growth from targeted exposure to the Consumer Staples sector.
